Dr. Martin's scholarly interests include interdisciplinary planning with library sciences to enhance literacy outcomes, social support, intensive intervention for children with learning disabilities, and parental involvement.

Dawn Jacobs Martin, Ph.D is passionate about increasing academic outcomes for students requiring accommodations, interventions, and collaborative services to access school-based curriculum.  She has demonstrated her ability to be an effective and dynamic leader through her roles as a practitioner, researcher, writer, and special education director. Currently, she works in higher education developing, evaluating, and implementing engaging undergraduate courses aligned to the EdTPA Teacher Certification requirements.

  • Received her B.A. in Communication Disorders from The University of Connecticut, M.A. in Special Education Learning Disabilities from American University, and Doctorate of Philosophy in Special Education Learning Disabilities from the University of 澳门开奖网, College Park.
  • Published over 50 nationally distributed discussion guides through various journals and publishing companies, such as School Library Journal, Disney-Hyperion, Candlewick, and Fabled Films Press.  Her publications support teachers by providing insightful discussion questions aligned to the Common Core State Standards and rigorous activity suggestions to meet the needs of a differentiated classroom environment.
  • In her prior work as a special education director she developed, monitored, and improved math and ELA intervention programs for a charter network of six schools with more than 500 students receiving specialized instruction.  Her responsibilities included providing high impact teacher training, progress monitoring achievement, evaluating fidelity of intervention implementation, and identifying best practices using a Response to Intervention framework.
  • In-depth knowledge of High Incidence Disabilities, Response to Intervention, and Common Core State Standards.  She disseminates information regarding research-based practices at national and regional conferences annually.  She is the member of several professional organizations and committees dedicated to enhancing access for all children through evidence-based practices.
  • School administrators frequently request her support real-time coaching and instructional modeling to enhance the performance of novice and experienced teachers.
